Goodbye, Charli Chicken is a children’s book designed to gently introduce conversations about dying, death, and grief through the experience of saying goodbye to a beloved pet. The book provides a calm, age-appropriate starting point for children and the adults supporting them, without relying on clinical explanations or distressing detail.
It's purpose is to reduce fear, silence, and taboo around grief by beginning the conversation early and gently.
Children often encounter grief for the first time through pet loss. While this experience can be deeply felt, many adults report uncertainty about how to talk with children about loss, resulting in avoidance or minimal acknowledgement. Unaddressed grief can contribute to confusion, anxiety, and emotional isolation.
